The Norris Fund

The John Wyatt Norris Memorial Fund of the Vermont Chapter, American Guild of Organists, was established in 1976. It honors the memory of a Chaplain and Sub-Dean of the Chapter, who as a musician and priest of the Episcopal Church, also served as an editor of The Hymnal 1940. Through the Treasurer, the Chapter receives donations to augment the principal of The Norris Fund, and the interest is distributed at the discretion of the Executive Committee. The income is to be used primarily for prizes in Chapter-sponsored competitions for organ students and composers of organ music, hymns and anthems. In 1996, the scope of the disbursements was expanded to include aiding young applicants who wish to attend schools, camps, A.G.O. conventions, Pipe Organ Encounters, and workshops, with preference being given to events sponsored by the Vermont Chapter. Awards may be given to Vermont winners who will compete in Regional and National Young Artists Competitions.

Recent student recipients of Norris Fund grants have been Christian Huebner of Reading, Vt., Elizabeth Bergman of St. Johnsbury, Vt., Miriam Rose Prever of Claremont, N,H., and Miles Ames of Elmore, Vt.

The Ed Atkinson Boadway Memorial Fund

The Edgar Atkinson Boadway Memorial Fund of the Vermont Chapter of the American Guild of Organists was established in 2017. It honors the memory of a past Dean (2000-2007) and Artist of the Year (2006-2007).

A founding member of the Organ Historical Society Ed was a tireless advocate of the preservation of historic American pipe organs. The Fund was initiated by a generous donation of $1780.50 in Ed’s memory from the people of the United Church of Ludlow, Vermont where Ed played the organ from March 4, 2007 to June 12, 2016. This fund can be augmented by future donations to the Treasurer of this Chapter.

Grants are distributed at the discretion of the Executive Committee of this Chapter and may be used to defray expenses of those attending events and conventions of the Organ Historical Society.
